What is Long QT?

Long QT Syndrome (LQTS) is a condition that affects how your heart’s electrical system "recharges" after each beat.

To understand it, think of your heart like a battery-operated pump. After every heartbeat, the heart needs a brief moment to reset its electrical charge before it can beat again. In people with Long QT Syndrome, this reset period—known as the QT interval—takes longer than it should.

Because the heart is taking too long to reset, the electrical system can become disrupted. This can trigger a sudden, dangerously fast, and chaotic heartbeat.
